Digging the soil for potatoes

School Garden - Tuesday 27th March

The sun came out and so did we.
With the 2 vegetable beds dug over we began the planting season with potatoes(earlies) and onions.

First we planted 2 drills of  'early' potatoes called 'Duke of York'.
We put compost in the trench before we planted the potatoes shoots facing upwards.
Getting compost to improve the soil
We hope these potatoes will be ready for digging before we get our Summer holidays at the end of June.

In the mean time we must keep them well watered and we must  'earth them up' twice when the shoots appear.
Doing it carefully
